Troubleshooting

Straight fixes for the most common headaches. No fluff.

Quick reset

90-second checklist

Skin is clean & dry

No oils, lotions, sunscreen or makeup. If needed, wipe with mild soap and fully dry.

Trim close

Leave ~3 mm around the design. Sharp scissors = cleaner edges, less lifting.

Wet enough

Back the paper with a wet sponge for 10–15 seconds. Don’t drench to the point it slides around.

Firm, even pressure

Hold the sponge steady. Don’t rub. Let the paper release on its own.

Common issues

What’s wrong & how to fix it

Tattoo won’t transfer

Likely: too little water, not enough time or pressure, or skin not fully clean.

  • Hold a wet sponge on the backing for 10–15s. Don’t rush.
  • Press firmly and evenly, no sliding.
  • Clean and dry the area; avoid oils and lotions.

Edges lifting or wrinkling

Likely: placed over hair/stretchy skin or trimmed too wide.

  • Pick a smoother, less mobile spot (avoid joints where possible).
  • Re-trim closer to the design (~3 mm border).
  • Gently press down with a damp sponge, then pat dry.

Too shiny

Normal: new tattoos have some shine that fades.

  • Lightly dust with talcum/baby powder to mattify.
  • Avoid touching for 15 minutes to let it cure.

Not lasting long enough

Likely: friction, sweat, oils or frequent washing.

  • Choose a low friction area; avoid waistbands and cuffs.
  • Keep soaps/oils off the tattoo. Pat dry after showers.
  • Dust lightly with talc once dry for longer wear.

Smudging or blurred edges

Likely: too much water or the backing moved while wet.

  • Use a well-wrung sponge, wet but not dripping.
  • Hold the backing steady; don’t slide it around.

Colour doesn’t look right

Note: colours read differently on skin vs. paper/screen.

  • Choose bold, high contrast designs for the clearest look.
  • Avoid ultra fine lines on high movement areas.

Hard to remove

Fix: soak and lift, don’t scrub dry.

  • Apply baby oil or an oil-based remover, wait 30–60s, then wipe.
  • Warm soapy water helps clear residue.

Skin looks irritated

Stop and check: do not apply to broken or irritated skin.

  • Remove gently with oil if redness appears.
  • Patch test on a small area next time.
  • If irritation persists, speak to a pharmacist or GP.
